Description
Cantina Orsogna is a biodynamic and organic cooperative in Abruzzo, on the Adriatic coast of Italy, and its Lunaria Ruminat Primitivo comes from a project, run with the local council, to revive the red grape varieties of the region. Primitivo ripens to high sugar and gives a deep, powerful, fruit driven wine. The Abruzzo climate is warm and sunny, tempered by breezes off the Adriatic and cooler air from the Apennines inland, a combination that ripens the fruit fully while holding some freshness. The wine is raised in concrete rather than oak, which keeps the ripe fruit clean and pure and lets the temperature stable tanks settle the wine without adding wood flavour. It is farmed biodynamically and is vegan. The colour is a deep, dark red. The nose shows prune and berry fruit with dried figs, a touch of pepper and liquorice, and the palate is full bodied and ripe with soft tannins, warm alcohol and a generous, spiced finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees. Good with grilled and roast meats and hard cheese.
