Cantina Orsogna makes this Abruzzo Pinot Grigio rosé, the copper toned ramato style, under biodynamic and natural methods. Light skin contact gives a coppery pink wine with strawberry, peach and pear fruit and a fresh, faintly savoury character.
Description
This wine comes from Cantina Orsogna, a cooperative in Abruzzo that has moved from the region's old reputation for bulk wine towards organic, biodynamic and natural production from native and classic grapes. It is made from Pinot Grigio in the ramato style, where the grey pink skins of the grape are left in brief contact with the juice to draw a coppery rose colour and a little extra texture. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically along the Adriatic side of central Italy, where coastal breezes and the nearby Apennine foothills give cool nights that keep the wine fresh. Fermentation follows a natural approach with minimal intervention, which leaves a savoury, faintly earthy edge alongside the fruit. The wine pours a pale copper pink and shows strawberry, white peach and pear, with apricot and a citrus lift and a touch of white flowers. The palate is dry and fresh, fruit forward but textured from the skin contact, with a clean, lightly savoury finish. Serve it at 9 to 11 degrees in a white wine glass. It works as an aperitif and suits a wide range of lighter dishes.
