Description
Cantina Orsogna is a long-standing Abruzzo cooperative, founded in 1964 and now farming biodynamically across hundreds of members' plots. Lunaria Coste di Moro is a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva from a single zone, made without oak. Abruzzo's vineyards run between the Apennines and the Adriatic, and the cooling mountain air gives Montepulciano fresh acidity to balance its naturally deep colour and ripe fruit. The wine is fermented and aged in old stone lagares and concrete, neutral vessels that allow gentle micro-oxygenation while adding no wood character, so the fruit and the wine's savoury edge stay in focus. At 14 percent it is full bodied yet kept fresh and light on its feet. The colour is dense and dark. The nose shows ripe blackberry and dark plum with black pepper, dried herbs and an earthy, mineral note. The palate is generous and savoury, with ripe dark fruit, liquorice, fine tannins and a fresh, herbal finish that keeps it lively for a wine of this weight. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. It pairs with grilled red meats, hearty tomato-based dishes and aged cheese.
