Cantina Orsogna makes this Lunaria Charisma from Trebbiano d’Abruzzo, farmed biodynamically in Abruzzo, central Italy. Fermented and aged in stainless steel, it is fresh, dry and unadorned, with lemon, green apple and white flowers over a clean finish.
Description
Lunaria Charisma is a Trebbiano d'Abruzzo from Cantina Orsogna, a growers' cooperative in the hills of Abruzzo on Italy's central Adriatic coast. Trebbiano is the region's traditional white grape, valued for high yields and an easy, approachable style, and DOC Trebbiano d'Abruzzo covers wines grown across the province. The vineyards lie between the Apennine mountains and the sea, and this position gives cool nights and steady breezes that preserve freshness in a warm Mediterranean climate. Farming is biodynamic, the wine is vegan, and it is made with minimal intervention. Fermentation and six months of ageing take place in stainless steel, which keeps the fruit clean and bright and avoids any oak influence, letting the grape and the site speak plainly. The wine is pale straw in colour, with lemon, green apple and pear on the nose over white flowers and a light chamomile note. The palate is dry, light and direct, with fresh acidity and a clean, faintly herbal finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It is an everyday table white that suits fresh fish, shellfish and vegetable dishes, and its acidity handles tomato-based sauces.
