Cantina Orsogna’s Lunaria range comes from a biodynamic cooperative in Abruzzo. This ancestrale orange Malvasia is fermented on its skins with no added sulphur, giving a fresh, aromatic style of apricot, orange peel and white flowers with a light grip.
Description
Cantina Orsogna is a large cooperative in Abruzzo, central Italy, farming biodynamically under its Lunaria label with a strong environmental focus. This orange wine is made from Malvasia, an aromatic white grape, in an ancestrale style that keeps the winemaking as natural and low intervention as possible. The vineyards sit on the clay and limestone soils of the Abruzzo hills between the Apennine mountains and the Adriatic, a setting of warm days and cool nights that preserves aromatics and acidity in the fruit. The grapes are fermented on their skins, which extracts phenolics, light tannin and amber colour from the skins to give the wine texture and a savoury frame, while the aromatic Malvasia keeps the nose lifted and floral. Made with minimal intervention and little or no added sulphur, so the fruit stays in the foreground. Biodynamic, natural and vegan. The colour is a cloudy amber. The nose shows apricot, orange peel and white peach with white flowers and a herbal note, and the palate is dry, fresh and lightly grippy with a clean, gently savoury finish. Serve chilled at 10 to 12 degrees. Good with seafood, white fish and lighter dishes.
