An 18 year old Foursquare single cask from Cane Rum Bottling Company at cask strength 60 percent, fresh and intense with caramel, vanilla and roasted oak over warm pepper, an unsweetened 2005 Barbados bottling.
Description
The Cane Rum Bottling Company selected this 2005 Foursquare as a single cask, drawing on the benchmark Barbados distillery run by Richard Seale. Foursquare blends double-retort pot and twin-column Coffey rum and holds a strict no-additives stance, and this release is unsweetened, bottled at a full 60 percent. At 18 years it shows the distillery with real depth.
Matured from molasses in ex-bourbon oak using both pot and column distillate, it leads with woody, roasted, caramel and vanilla notes on the nose, then a fresh, intense palate of wood and spice, finishing warm and woody with pepper and caramel. There is genuine concentration here from the long ageing, the fresh side balancing the roasted oak, the proof bringing warmth that rewards a little water. A characterful, authentic Foursquare for drinkers who want their Barbados rum aged long, full strength and free of additives.
