Cane Island A.F.D. The

Cane Island bottled this young Dominican rum from molasses distilled on a column still at Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos, a major source of bulk Dominican spirit. Five years in ex-bourbon barrels gives it the light, approachable Spanish style frame the island is known for, where the cask carries most of the flavour over a clean, neutral leaning distillate.

The nose shows its youth with some spirit lift alongside barrel, fruit and spice, while the palate brings mirabelle plum, raisin and soft wood. The finish stays mild and lightly spicy. There is a gentle sweetness here that keeps it easy going rather than dry, and at 43% it works equally well sipped neat or stretched into a mixed drink. This is an honest, everyday Dominican pour, light and fruity, for drinkers who want approachable rather than complex.
