Can Sumoi is Raventós i Blanc’s natural wine estate, set at 600 metres in the Penedès hills. La Rosa blends indigenous Sumoll and Xarel·lo, farmed biodynamically, giving a pale, floral rosé with raspberry, stone fruit and a fresh, savoury lift.
Description
Can Sumoi is the natural wine venture of Raventós i Blanc, who left D.O. Cava in 2012 and found a 400-hectare estate in Montmell, in the Penedès, sitting at 600 metres of elevation. The altitude matters here: cool nights preserve acidity and aromatic freshness, while the surrounding woodland and 20 hectares of vineyard give the fruit a distinct mountain character. The estate is farmed biodynamically and the wine is certified organic and vegan. La Rosa draws on indigenous varieties, the red Sumoll alongside Xarel·lo, the latter undergoing restoration on the estate. Made in a low-intervention style with minimal handling, it sees a brief maceration to set a pale colour before a fresh fermentation that keeps the floral aromatics intact. The wine is pale pink, opening with a floral delicacy and aromas of raspberry pulp and stone fruit. The palate is dry, light and crisp, with bright acidity, a savoury edge from the Sumoll and a clean, slightly saline finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It makes a fine aperitif and suits grilled fish, fresh shellfish and herb-led salads.
