Description
Can Rich has farmed organically on Ibiza in the Balearic Islands since 1997, working the local Malvasía in a Mediterranean island climate of warm days, cooling sea breezes and poor limestone influenced soils. Malvasía is naturally aromatic, and here it is picked to keep freshness, which shows in the low 11.5 percent alcohol. Rather than a simple tank white, this cuvée is barrel fermented and spends around three months in French oak. Fermenting in barrel and resting on the lees integrates a light oak influence and builds a rounder texture and a faint nutty, waxy character, while keeping the varietal florals and stone fruit to the fore rather than overt wood. The wine is pale gold. The nose is white peach and apricot with white flowers and a touch of lemon, backed by a subtle almond and beeswax note from the lees and barrel. The palate is dry and softly textured, the aromatic fruit balanced by fresh acidity and a savoury, gently nutty finish. Serve at around 10C in a white glass.
