Can Descregut works in Catalonia, making natural wines that are organic and vegan, with no additions in the cellar. This red blends international Merlot with Sumoll, an old indigenous Catalan variety known for its high acidity, light colour and savoury edge. The vineyards lie on the limestone and clay soils common to the region, under a warm Mediterranean climate tempered by cooler nights that keep the fruit fresh. The wine ages twelve months in oak barrels, where slow oxygen exchange softens the tannins and adds a light savoury structure, while the natural, low-intervention approach keeps the fruit lively and unforced. It pours a bright ruby. The nose is youthful and vibrant, leading with plum and red berries over cherry, dried herbs and a peppery, earthy lift. The palate is light to medium bodied, the juicy fruit framed by fresh acidity from the Sumoll and fine, supple tannins, finishing clean and savoury. This is a red built for the table rather than the cellar. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees, with a light chill welcome, alongside grilled pork, roast poultry or tomato-based dishes.
