Campo Viejo makes this Rioja rosado from Tempranillo, vinified by the saignée method and fermented cool in stainless steel. It is pale pink and fresh, with juicy strawberry, ripe plum and wild blackberry.
Description
Campo Viejo Rosado is a single-variety Tempranillo rosé from D.O.Ca. Rioja, made by one of the region's best-known wineries. Tempranillo is Rioja's signature grape, and Rioja's continental climate, with warm days and cool nights from the surrounding mountains, ripens it for generous red fruit while keeping the acidity that defines this fresh, pale style. In the cellar the wine is vinified by the saignée method, running off a portion of pale juice from the start of maceration, then fermented in stainless steel at a controlled 13 to 18 degrees. That cool, temperature controlled ferment protects the primary aromatics and the delicate colour, and the wine sees no oak so it stays direct and fruit led. The colour is a delicate pale pink. The nose is fresh, with juicy strawberry, ripe plum and a note of wild blackberry. The palate is dry and crisp, the red fruit carried by bright acidity to a clean, appealing finish. This is a light, approachable rosado for easy drinking. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees as an aperitif or with light dishes such as white fish, poultry and salads.
