Description
Campo Viejo Blanco is a young white from D.O.Ca. Rioja, made by Campo Viejo in Logrono, a house whose first vintage was in 1959 and which now works from a modern, sustainable winery. It is built on Viura, the region's main white grape. Rioja lies in the Ebro valley, where warm days and cooler nights allow the fruit to ripen while keeping the acidity that a fresh white needs, and picking at the right moment matters because Viura loses its freshness quickly in the heat. This is a wine made for early drinking, fermented cool and clean in stainless steel with no oak, which keeps the bright primary fruit to the fore. The colour is pale straw with green tints. The nose is green apple and pear, with white flowers and light citrus. The palate is dry, light and crisp, the acidity fresh, closing on lemon and a faint melon note. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It makes an easy aperitif and suits white fish, shellfish and green salads.
