Description
This is a Cameronbridge single grain, chosen and bottled by Duckhammer's Rare & Fine Spirits, aged 46 year old distilled in 1974 and bottled at 40.2%. Only 218 bottles were released. Cameronbridge, in the Kingdom of Fife, is Diageo's largest distillery and the home of Scotch grain whisky. It is one of the largest distilleries in Europe, making well over a hundred million litres a year.
Distilled in column stills for a clean, sweet grain, building the light Cameronbridge grain style. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, American oak giving coconut and toffee. Beyond thirty years the grain grows deep and oily, coconut, butterscotch and crème brûlée over polished oak. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the sweet, oily core over the years. The Haig name has been tied to Scottish distilling since the 17th century. It was the home of continuous distillation in Scotland, making the country's first commercial grain whisky.
At a full 40.2% it is intense yet sweet. The ex-Bourbon gives crème brûlée, coconut and vanilla. A crème brûlée and a polished oak give it depth. A warming, sweet finish lingers. This is an aged single grain from Diageo's largest distillery.
