Description
Single grain Cameronbridge, an independent Douglas Laing bottling, a 29 year old single grain distilled in 1991 and bottled at 52.5%. A release of 122 bottles. Cameronbridge is a vast Lowland grain distillery in Fife, working since 1824. Since Port Dundas closed in 2010, Cameronbridge is Diageo's only wholly owned grain distillery.
It was worked through column stills from wheat, for the light, sweet grain spirit Cameronbridge is known for. A refill American oak cask held it, building the sweet, oily grain character. Past two decades the grain deepens into coconut, toffee and crème brûlée. The clean grain base lets the cask speak clearly across the years. A founding member of the Distillers Company in 1877, it is now Diageo's largest distillery. Since Port Dundas closed in 2010, it is Diageo's only wholly owned grain distillery. As well as whisky, it makes the neutral spirit for Gordon's and Tanqueray gin and Smirnoff vodka.
At a hearty 52.5% it carries real weight. The ex-Bourbon gives coconut, toffee and a creamy caramel. It is soft and deep, the grain and oak well matched. A long, oily finish carries a coconut lift. This is a single grain from the home of Scotch grain whisky.
