Description
Single grain Cameronbridge, an independent Claxton's bottling, aged 15 year old distilled in 2006, from cask C22043 and bottled at 48.3%. A release of 43 bottles. Cameronbridge is a Lowland grain distillery in Fife, founded in 1824 by John Haig and now the largest distillery in Scotland. Since Port Dundas closed in 2010, Cameronbridge is Diageo's only wholly owned grain distillery.
The spirit was run off the distillery's three column stills from a wheat mash, to build a soft, sweet grain character. A sherry cask wrapped the sweet grain in dried fruit and a nutty depth. Younger here, it keeps a clean, fresh grain character over light vanilla. Time in oak deepens the toffee and crème brûlée notes of aged grain. The site was expanded again in 2007 in a forty million pound investment. The Haig name has been tied to Scottish distilling since the 17th century. It was the home of continuous distillation in Scotland, making the country's first commercial grain whisky.
At a full 48.3% it is intense yet sweet. The Oloroso brings dried fruit and a nutty depth over the sweet grain. It is clean and sweet, the grain spirit shining through. Crème brûlée and oak draw out the close. This is a single grain from the home of Scotch grain whisky.
