Description
Bottled by Keeble Cask Company Ltd, this Cambus, a 40 year old single grain distilled in 1984, from cask 705066 and bottled at 45.6%. Only 368 bottles were released. Cambus was a Lowland grain distillery on the River Devon in Clackmannanshire, founded around 1806 and closed in 1993. Closed in 1993, the site is now a Diageo cooperage beside the Blackgrange warehouses.
The spirit was run off the distillery's continuous column stills, to build a soft, sweet grain character. Maturation in a sherry cask laid dried fruit over the oily grain. Decades leave it deep and waxy, crème brûlée and coconut with a polished depth. Years in oak deepen the toffee and crème brûlée notes of aged grain. It was one of the five grain distilleries that founded the Distillers Company Limited in 1877. In 1906 its grain was advertised as not a headache in a gallon, helping win the What is Whisky case. Closed in 1993, the site is now a Diageo cooperage beside the Blackgrange warehouses.
Undiluted at 45.6%, it is layered. The Oloroso brings dried fruit and a nutty depth over the sweet grain. It is soft and deep, the grain and oak well matched. The finish is deep, oily and creamy. This is an old single grain from a closed Lowland distillery.
