Description
Single grain Cambus, an independent Signatory Vintage bottling, a 30 year old release distilled in 1991, from cask 34106 and bottled at 54.6%. A release of 346 bottles. A lost Lowland grain distillery near Alloa, Cambus distilled from around 1806 until 1993. It was one of the five grain distilleries that founded the Distillers Company Limited in 1877.
It was worked through continuous column stills from grain, for the light, sweet grain spirit Cambus was known for. Ex-Sherry wood added a dried fruit richness to the sweet grain. Past twenty five years the spirit turns oily and dessert sweet while staying clean. Decades in cask build a waxy, polished depth over the clean grain spirit. Cambus was once one of the largest grain distilleries in Scotland. Most surviving Cambus was distilled in the late 1980s and early 1990s, before the doors closed. Grain whisky like this gains coconut and toffee from decades in active oak.
At 54.6%, undiluted, it is deep and sweet. The Oloroso brings dried fruit and a nutty depth over the sweet grain. A butterscotch and a creamy oak lift it. It closes long, sweet and oily. This is a single grain from the lost Cambus distillery.
