An 18 year Cadenhead’s bottling in the Rockley style, honey, beeswax and herbs threaded with gentle smoke and tropical fruit, dry and unsweetened at an easy 46%, an old-school Barbados pot-still sipper full of character without the heat.
Description
Cadenhead's, the venerable Scottish independent, bottled this Green Label from 1986 Barbados pot-still rum carrying the Rockley name. Rockley is best thought of as a style rather than a literal still, a medium-to-heavy, high-ester Bajan character marked by honey, smoke and a herbal-medicinal edge, and this 18 year release is a classic example of it.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak and reduced to 46%, it opens on honey and honeycomb with beeswax, soft smoke and vanilla, then turns herbal and gently funky on the palate with tropical fruit underneath. The finish stays dry, smoky and honeyed. Bottled unsweetened, it shows none of the sugary roundness of modern Barbados blends, instead offering the more characterful, slightly wild old-school profile. The lower strength gives it an easy, approachable feel while keeping plenty of depth, a rewarding pour for anyone curious about Rockley character without overproof intensity.
