A single cask Colombian Dictador distilled in 1993, 26 years on ex-bourbon oak at a forceful 65.3%, dark and roasted with coffee, dark chocolate, tobacco and old wood edged with light smoke.
Description
Cadenhead's Dictador 1993 is a single cask from the venerable Scottish bottler, drawing on Colombian spirit from Destiléría Colombiana, the house behind Dictador's coffee and cocoa accented ron. This is a pot and column blend from molasses, aged 26 years in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at a powerful 65.3% from one barrel.
The long maturation and high strength push it into dark, brooding territory. The nose is dense with coffee, spice, barrel and raisin, the palate brings dark chocolate, tobacco, old wood and more raisin, and the finish carries caramel, coffee and chocolate with a smoky, almost ashy edge. There is real depth and heat here, and a little water helps it open. Sugar is not declared and the profile reads rich rather than overtly sugared. A bold, cigar lounge style Colombian for experienced drinkers who like their rum dark, roasted and assertive.
