Cadenhead’s Green Label DDL Guyanese rum, ten years old in ex-bourbon at 46 percent, a wood-forward Demerara of barrel, caramel, toasted notes and chocolate that turns drier and a little raw across a young-oak finish.
Description
This Green Label is Cadenhead bottling Demerara Distillers stock, a ten year old Guyanese rum matured in ex-bourbon wood and reduced to 46 percent. Cadenhead's Green Label sits in their accessible, natural-strength range, and this is a straightforward DDL blend rather than a single heritage marque, carrying general Diamond character.
Molasses distillate aged in ex-bourbon gives a wood-led nose of barrel, toasted oak, caramel and vanilla, with the palate turning to caramelised sugar, roasted notes, chocolate and a young-wood edge, then a woody, faintly fruity finish. Honest drinkers find this a fairly straightforward, oak-driven Guyanese rum where the spirit shows a little raw beneath light sweetness and wood. At 46 percent it is an unfussy introduction to the drier independent side of Demerara, best judged on its woody, lightly sweet simplicity.
