Ca’ Lojera makes this Lugana Riserva from Trebbiano di Lugana on the southern shores of Lake Garda. Held twenty-four months in steel tank, it is a fuller, developed white of white peach, melon, almond and a saline, mineral finish.
Description
Riserva del Lupo is a Lugana from Ca' Lojera, the Tiraboschi family estate on the southern shore of Lake Garda in Lombardy, Italy. It is made from Trebbiano di Lugana, the local biotype also known as Turbiana, grown on the heavy clay soils of the morainic basin south of the lake. Those clays retain water and give Lugana its characteristic body and its saline, almost mineral depth, while the lake creates a mild microclimate with cooling breezes that hold the acidity through a warm summer. This is a Riserva, and the wine spends twenty-four months in stainless steel tank before release. That long ageing on and after the lees, with no oak, builds texture, a nutty complexity and a rounder mouthfeel while keeping the fruit fresh. The wine is deep straw in colour, with white peach, ripe melon and citrus peel on the nose over almond, white flowers and a touch of honey from bottle development. The palate is dry and full at 14 per cent, with a creamy weight, a savoury almond note and a long saline finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees. It suits richer fish, poultry and creamy dishes.
