Ca’ Lojera makes this Chiaretto on the shores of Lake Garda from Groppello, Marzemino, Sangiovese and Barbera. A traditional pale Garda rosé, it is dry and fragrant with cherry, peach and white flowers.
Description
Ca' Lojera, the House of the Wolves, farms 18 hectares on the southern shore of Lake Garda, in Lombardy. This is a Chiaretto, the classic pale rosé of Riviera del Garda Classico, made from a local blend led by Groppello with Marzemino, Sangiovese and Barbera. The lake acts as a vast heat store, moderating temperatures and lengthening the growing season, while breezes off the water keep the vineyards fresh and aromatic. Chiaretto is made by brief skin contact and a short, cool fermentation, drawing out delicate colour and primary fruit while protecting freshness. The wine is fermented in stainless steel with no oak. The colour is a light cherry pink. The nose is fragrant and lifted, with cherry and red berries, white peach, white flowers and a gentle herbal note. The palate is dry and bright, with crisp acidity, light body and a clean, faintly almond finish. This is a fresh, food friendly rosé in the northern Italian tradition. Serve well chilled at around 8 to 10 degrees. It suits lake and sea fish, risotto and lighter pasta.
