BVB Gin 09 was created for the Borussia Dortmund football club and made by WeiLa as a small flag for the city itself. Nine botanicals do the work: juniper, orange, lime, kaffir lime, lemon, lemongrass and orange peel for a citrus-forward lift, liquorice for sweetness, and Limousin oak for an unusual woody undercurrent. The number nine is no accident, a nod to the club's 09 in every detail down to the bottle.
The nose is fresh with orange, lime and kaffir lime, lemongrass spice and a fine juniper base. The palate is smooth and refreshing, an intense run of citrus and juniper with a light woody, herbal note and a hint of liquorice, before a long, aromatic finish. Serve with a quality tonic and a twist of orange peel, or stir into a Negroni where the oak adds backbone.
