Bunnahabhain 33 Years Old 1990 (Claxton’s)

Claxton's Dalswinton Series is the upper tier of the Yorkshire bottler's catalogue, reserved for older and rarer single casks. The series name draws from a small village in Dumfries and Galloway, signalling a particular quality bracket within the bottler's range. This 33 year old Bunnahabhain comes from spirit distilled in 1990, matured in a single Oloroso cask through three decades, and bottled in 2024 at 48.6% natural strength.

The 1990 vintage sits well inside the Highland Distillers ownership era of Bunnahabhain, before the 1999 acquisition by Edrington and the production lull that followed when distillation was reduced to a few weeks per year. Casks filled in 1990 represent the late peak-production years before that change, and the surviving stock has built particular interest among bottlers selecting Bunnahabhain for age-statement releases.

After 33 years in a single Oloroso cask, the spirit has fully fused with the wood. The dried-fruit weight has concentrated through decades of slow oxidative interaction with the wine-seasoned wood; walnut and leather markers run deep; old-furniture aromatic comes through alongside the polished oak character that very long maturation produces. The 48.6% strength after 33 years reflects measured evaporation in cool dunnage warehouse conditions. The Bunnahabhain coastal signature holds underneath, with the oily texture and gentle maritime salinity carrying through the dense sherry weight. Single cask, natural colour, non-chill-filtered.
