3006 Whisky is a small Dutch independent bottler founded by Jop Boer in 2017, the name taken from his birthday on June 30th. The operation runs from the Netherlands but holds its own cask stock in Scotland, releasing five to ten bottlings per year selected on personal preference rather than buying-team consensus. The Duality series carries releases finished in a second cask after primary maturation, the name pointing at the two-stage wood programme. This 7 year old Bunnahabhain comes from cask 361812, finished in a Pedro Ximénez quarter cask and bottled at 63.7% natural strength.

The quarter cask format is the defining technical feature of this release. Quarter casks run at roughly 50 litres, a quarter of the volume of a standard American Standard Barrel and a fifth of a typical sherry hogshead. The dramatic increase in wood-to-spirit ratio means cask transfer happens at much higher concentration than in a full-size vessel, so even short finishing periods produce visible cask influence. Pedro Ximénez quarter casks are unusual on the indie scene; the format is more commonly associated with bourbon finishing in the Laphroaig Quarter Cask tradition, and PX in this size requires specialist coopering from a butt down to quarter format.

PX is the sweetest of the major sherry styles, made from sun-dried Pedro Ximénez grapes that concentrate to a near-syrup before fermentation. The cask wood carries the residue of that intensity, transferring dense raisin, fig paste, treacle and dark molasses character into the spirit during finishing. In a quarter cask format those notes come through with concentrated speed. Underneath, Bunnahabhain's oily, lightly maritime distillate provides the structure to carry the heavy sweet-wine sweetness without going syrupy. The high 63.7% ABV after seven years suggests a cool dunnage warehouse with minimal angel's share. Natural colour, non-chill-filtered, single cask.
