Description
Brühler Whiskyhaus is the Cologne-area specialist retailer and bottler that has been releasing exclusive single-cask expressions for nearly two decades, working with Signatory Vintage and other Scottish indie bottlers as the cask source. A Dream of Scotland is the shop's recurring exclusive line, naming each release after a scenic Scottish location. This 17 year old Bunnahabhain comes from a single Oloroso cask bottled at 54.3% natural strength.
Seventeen years in a single Oloroso butt sits at the longer end of the wood-and-spirit integration window, where the cask character has fully fused with the distillate but hasn't yet entered the heavier concentrated register that very long sherry maturations produce. The Oloroso markers of walnut, dried fig, leather and polished oak come through with depth, layered against the Bunnahabhain coastal signature: oily texture, gentle maritime brine, the Margadale Burn mineral character.
Brühler Whiskyhaus's selections lean into casks where the Bunnahabhain house style remains legible underneath the sherry weight, and the 54.3% bottling strength is right at the level where the cask aromatics carry without water while small additions still open additional layers. Releases in the A Dream of Scotland series typically run to single-cask outturns under 600 bottles. Natural colour, non-chill-filtered.
