Description
Gordon & MacPhail have been bottling single malt Scotch since 1895, and the firm holds one of the oldest and largest independent cask inventories in the country. This 10 year old Bunnahabhain comes from cask 2614, released under one of G&M's regional/single-cask labels, bottled at a high 60.5% natural cask strength. Distilled in 2014, bottled in 2025. The maturation is in Oloroso sherry. Bunnahabhain has been a longstanding supplier to G&M's cask programme, the bottler holds substantial parcels of the distillery's stock across multiple decades, and Oloroso is the dominant cask style across G&M's Bunnahabhain releases. At ten years, the spirit is at the lively younger end of sherry-matured Islay; the cask hasn't yet absorbed every spirit edge, so the distillate character still pushes through the wood layer with clarity. The 60.5% ABV is high for a 10 year old, even at natural strength, indicating slow evaporation in a cool warehouse. That preserves both spirit weight and cask oils, so the bottle drinks heavier than the age alone would suggest. Expect young-but-concentrated Bunnahabhain: the oily, mineral, lightly maritime distillate carrying the Oloroso's nutty fig-and-walnut markers, with the high strength giving the palate a warm, structured grip. Water lifts the sherry aromatics noticeably. Natural colour, non-chill-filtered, single cask.
