Description
Bruno Rocca makes Langhe Cadet from Chardonnay grown in the Fausoni vineyard at Neive, in Piedmont's Barbaresco zone. The parcel sits on the bluish marl and limestone soils that also carry the estate's Nebbiolo, and that calcareous ground gives the wine freshness and cut. Farming is sustainable. The wine is aged for around eight months in a mix of stainless steel and barrel, so the steel keeps the fruit crisp and precise while a portion in wood adds a little texture and roundness. It pours a bright straw yellow and shows white peach, pear, citrus and a light floral note, with a faint creamy edge from the barrel portion. The palate is fresh and balanced, with ripe orchard fruit and a clean line of acidity from the limestone soils running into a dry finish. This is a Piedmont Chardonnay that favours precision over oak. Serve it at 10 to 12 degrees in a standard white wine glass.

Additional information
The fresh, balanced style suits grilled white fish and roast chicken. The light barrel edge also handles creamy mushroom dishes such as a risotto. Serve it lightly chilled.
