An eight year TDL from Bristol Classic Rum, this light Trinidad rum is a gentle, drier sipper at 43%, lychee and menthol over almond, black pepper, baking spice and dark chocolate.
Description
Bristol Classic Rum is a long-running English bottler with a reputation for closed and characterful distillery stock. This bottling draws on Trinidad Distillers Limited, the living TDL distillery within the Angostura group, whose column-distilled rum defines the island's light, smooth, fragrant modern style. It carries eight years of age at an easy 43%.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak from Trinidadian molasses, it shows lychee, menthol and light wood on the nose, then almond, black pepper, baking spice and dark chocolate on a slightly thin but gently spiced palate. A faint minty bitterness runs through, with red-fruit and rustic leather touches giving it a relaxed character. This is a drier, undemanding everyday Trinidad sipper in the vein of lighter Barbadian blends, well suited to casual evenings, with dessert, coffee or a cigar, rather than a rum chasing power.
