Brigaldara farms 50 hectares in Valpolicella Classica, near San Floriano. This fresh red blends Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella and is raised only in stainless steel, keeping vivid cherry fruit, dried herbs and a bright, food-friendly acidity.
Description
Brigaldara is a historic estate just outside San Floriano in the heart of Valpolicella Classica, the original zone of the appellation in Veneto. The Cesari family farm 50 hectares of vineyards, olive groves and woodland using traditional and respectful methods. This Valpolicella is a blend of the local grapes Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella, the classic trio of the region. The vineyards sit on the limestone and basalt hillsides of the Classico zone, where good drainage and cooling air from the nearby mountains preserve acidity and aromatic freshness. Corvina provides the cherry fruit and structure, Corvinone adds depth and Rondinella brings colour and reliability. The wine is raised entirely in stainless steel, with no oak, so fermentation and ageing keep the fruit clean and primary. The inert tank preserves the bright red fruit and freshness that mark a young Valpolicella. It pours a clear ruby colour, with a nose of fresh cherry, red berries and dried herbs over a light peppery, earthy edge. The palate is light to medium bodied, with crisp acidity, low tannin and a savoury finish that calls for food. The estate farms sustainably. Serve lightly cool at 14 to 16 degrees. It suits pasta with tomato, grilled pork and mushroom dishes.
