Briego Vendimia Seleccionada is a single-vineyard Ribera del Duero Tempranillo from the El Bercial plot. Aged nine months in barrel, it is a youthful but structured red with ripe dark fruit, spice and a firm tannic backbone.
Description
Briego Vendimia Seleccionada is a single variety Tempranillo from Bodega Briego in Ribera del Duero, drawn entirely from one vineyard, El Bercial. The fruit is picked by hand and carried carefully to the winery to keep the bunches whole and avoid premature fermentation. The high Duero plateau gives this wine its frame: a continental climate with hot days, cold nights and a long growing season that builds deep colour, ripe tannin and concentrated dark fruit while preserving acidity, all over the limestone and clay soils typical of the appellation. After a two week fermentation the wine is aged for nine months in barrel, a shorter elevage that keeps the fruit forward while the oak and its slow oxygen exchange firm the structure and add measured spice and vanilla. The result is youthful but built on the firm backbone that marks Ribera del Duero. The colour is deep cherry. The nose shows ripe plum, cherry and red berries with liquorice and sweet spice. The palate is full and structured, with grippy young tannins and a long, spiced finish. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees and decant. A wine for grilled and roast red meat.
