It ages for 20 months in American oak barrels, the long oak ageing that defines the classic Rioja Reserva style; the American wood and slow oxygen exchange soften the tannins and layer sweet vanilla, coconut and spice over the fruit, while the extended time in cask develops savoury, leathery complexity. The colour is a mature red with garnet edges. The nose shows ripe red and black fruit, leather, tobacco and sweet oak spice, with a dried herb note. The palate is medium to full bodied, smooth and balanced, with fine, settled tannin and a long, savoury finish. This is a wine ready to drink.
