Bouza grows this Pinot Noir on the Atlantic-cooled slopes around Cerro Pan de Azúcar in Maldonado, Uruguay. Ten months in barrel give a fresh, elegant red of ruby fruit, red cherry, raspberry and a fine, savoury finish.
Description
Bouza produces this Pinot Noir in the oceanic Maldonado zone of Uruguay, on slopes overlooked by the landmark hill of Cerro Pan de Azúcar. The site sits close to the Atlantic, and the cool maritime climate with constant sea breezes slows ripening and protects acidity, conditions that suit Pinot Noir's need for a long, gentle growing season. That coastal influence, combined with a wide day-to-night temperature swing, gives bright fruit and fine aromatics rather than weight. The wine is aged for ten months in barrel, enough to round the texture and add a light savoury frame through slow oxygen exchange while leaving the fruit clearly in front. The colour is a clear ruby red. The nose is intense and fresh, with red cherry, raspberry and redcurrant lifted by a faint earthy, floral note. The palate is light to medium bodied, with silky tannin, vivid acidity and an elegant, savoury finish. This is cool-climate New World Pinot Noir made for freshness and food. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees in a Burgundy glass, with roast duck, chicken or salmon.
