Description
Domaine Bott-Geyl is a family estate in Beblenheim in the Upper Rhine, working plots that have been cultivated since 1775. This Gewurztraminer, part of the Les Elements range, is a single-variety wine fermented in stainless steel and rested four months on its lees before bottling. Gewurztraminer is Alsace's most aromatic grape, a pink-skinned variety naturally rich in aromatic compounds that give its signature rose, lychee and spice. The estate's clay and limestone soils and the dry, sheltered Alsace climate, protected by the Vosges mountains, ripen the thick skins fully and build the grape's characteristic weight and low acidity. Fermentation in steel preserves purity of aroma, while the short lees ageing adds a touch of texture to what is naturally a broad, oily style. The wine is deep gold, with rose, white peach and honey on the nose over ginger and candied citrus peel. The palate is full and dry to just off-dry, with a warming, spiced finish. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees.
