Description
Domaine Bott-Geyl is a family estate founded in 1926 in the Upper Rhine, farming around 14 hectares across 75 plots biodynamically since 2002. Gentil d'Alsace is a traditional local blend, a category that requires at least half the wine to come from Alsace's noble grapes. This bottling, named Metiss, brings together Muscat, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Sylvaner, each variety contributing its own note to the whole. Muscat supplies floral and grapey lift, Riesling the citrus and mineral drive, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris the roundness and body, and Sylvaner a fresh, earthy base. The plots span the estate's clay and limestone soils, and the dry Alsace climate behind the Vosges keeps the fruit ripe but bright. Fermentation in stainless steel over four months preserves the aromatics and keeps the style clean and immediate. The wine is pale gold, with white flowers, white peach and pear on the nose over rose and citrus peel. The palate is dry, fresh and gently textured, finishing on a mineral note. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees.
