Description
Graeme and Julie Bott farm in the northern Rhône, and First Flight is their entry Viognier, drawn from vineyards in the Collines Rhodaniennes, the hilly country around the classic appellations. It offers the grape's floral, stone fruit character in a fresher, more immediate style than their Condrieu. The hillside sites here sit on granite and clay limestone soils that drain well and reflect heat, ripening Viognier fully, while the elevation and cool nights hold acidity and keep the aromatics precise. The wine is fermented and aged in barrel, where lees contact and gentle oxygen exchange lend a light texture without heavy oak flavour, letting the fruit lead. Viognier must ripen fully to show its perfume, and this bottling captures it while staying bright. Expect a pale gold colour, an aromatic nose of sweet apricot, white peach, melon and white flowers with a citrus edge, and a palate that is soft and generous yet lifted by fresh acidity into a clean finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.

Additional information
The apricot perfume and soft texture suit grilled white fish, roast chicken and pork with apple. It also serves well as an aperitif or beside a summer salad with stone fruit.
