Description
Bott Crozes-Hermitage Rouge is made by Graeme and Julie Bott, who trained under Stéphane Ogier before founding their own Northern Rhône estate. Crozes-Hermitage is the largest appellation of the Northern Rhône, spread around the hill of Hermitage on a mix of granite, clay and the famous galets, the rounded alluvial stones that store daytime heat. This is the lighter, more open side of Northern Rhône Syrah, built for freshness and early charm. Whole bunch fermentation adds a peppery lift and fine tannin, and the wine spends around 10 months in oak barrels, a short élevage that keeps the fruit bright and the texture supple. It is bright red with violet hints, leading on cherry and raspberry with a delicate touch of violet, white pepper and a light smoky note, all carried by fresh acidity and soft, fine tannins. At 12.5 percent alcohol it is approachable and easy to serve. Pour at 15 to 17 degrees, with roast chicken, grilled pork or a charcuterie board.
