Description
Botijo Blanco is made by Bodegas Frontonio in Epila, in the IGP Valdejalon in Aragon. The winery was founded in 2008 by Fernando Mora, a Master of Wine, and winemaker Mario Lopez, with a mission to raise the profile of Valdejalon and its old vineyards. This is a single variety Garnacha Blanca from vines farmed organically, certified since 2017, on around fifty hectares set in a continental Mediterranean climate. The old vines carry low yields of concentrated fruit, while the wide day to night temperature range at altitude keeps acidity fresh in a grape that can otherwise turn broad and low in acid. The wine is made in a fresh, unoaked young style that protects its primary character. The colour is pale with green tints. The nose is fresh and lively, showing lime zest and white blossom with a subtle smoky note that adds character. The palate is light and clean, with citrus fruit, a stony minerality and a saline finish. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. It is an easy partner for light seafood and salads.
