Bosque de Matasnos Edición Limitada is a Ribera del Duero red built mainly on Tempranillo with a touch of Merlot from old vines over fifty years old. Twelve months in French and American oak give a deep, structured wine of black fruit, cocoa and firm tannin.
Description
Bosque de Matasnos Edición Limitada is a red from D.O. Ribera del Duero, overseen by general director Jaime Postigo, who supervises every step of the winemaking. It is a coupage of Tempranillo, around ninety five per cent, with a small share of Merlot, grown on the estate's own vines that are more than fifty years old. Those old vines, planted in poor, loam, sandy and clay soils, crop low and ripen slowly, concentrating fruit and giving the wine its depth and structure. The continental Ribera del Duero climate, with hot days and cold nights, preserves acidity and colour and drives full phenolic ripeness, which the elevated alcohol reflects. After fermentation the wine ages twelve months in French and American oak, where slow oxygen exchange refines the tannins and adds spice, cocoa and vanilla. The colour is deep, dense purple. The nose shows ripe black plum and cherry with cocoa, liquorice and a savoury, earthy note. The palate is full and structured, with concentrated dark fruit, firm tannins and a long, oak framed finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees, decanting an hour ahead, with roast and grilled red meats.
