Böser Kater Magic Berry Gin

Adrian Schleihauf is the third generation at his family's German fruit distillery, hand-making spirits since 1982 and giving part of every Böser Kater sale to cat protection, a brand born from his fondness for his cat Rüdiger. Magic Berry sets a classic juniper gin against the fruit the distillery knows best, leaning on blueberries and blackberries for a deep, berry-led profile. Its party piece is a colour shift: as tonic alters the pH, the spirit changes hue in the glass, a small visual flourish to go with the flavour.

The nose is generously fruity, raspberry and blackberry over a wild-berry tangle with juniper beneath and a faint tart edge. The palate follows with forest fruits and pine, lifted by a pleasant, refreshing acidity, and the finish stays long. Pour over ice with a light tonic, let the colour turn, and drop in a few fresh blackberries to underline the fruit.
