Description
Boscarelli was founded in Montepulciano in 1962 by Egidio Corradi and remains a family estate working with Sangiovese, known locally as Prugnolo Gentile, the backbone of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The vineyards sit on the clay and sandy soils of southern Tuscany, where good elevation and warm days with cool nights give Sangiovese the long, even ripening it needs to build both fruit and the bright acidity that defines the grape. This Costa Grande bottling is aged for twenty four months in oak, a long maturation that resolves Sangiovese's firm tannin through slow oxygen exchange while layering in spice and a touch of cedar. The wine is garnet, with a nose of sour cherry, plum and dried herbs over tobacco, leather and earth. The palate is medium to full bodied, with high acidity, fine grainy tannin and a savoury, persistent finish that holds the fruit and the structure in balance. Farming is sustainable. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees, decanting an hour ahead. It is built for the table, especially red meat and tomato based dishes.
