Borsao makes this young Garnacha-led blend in D.O. Campo de Borja from vines fifteen to twenty-five years old on clay-limestone soils. Unoaked and juicy, it shows ripe cherry, strawberry and a floral lift.
Description
Borsao is one of the leading names in Campo de Borja, in Aragón, a region built on old-vine Garnacha. This young red blends Garnacha Tinta with Tempranillo and Syrah, drawn from vineyards of fifteen to twenty-five years on clay-limestone, stony and loamy soils. Campo de Borja has a warm continental climate moderated by the cold Cierzo wind, which helps the grapes ripen fully while keeping the fruit fresh. The wine sees a short skin maceration of three to four days, with the full process running ten to twelve days, drawing out colour and supple fruit tannins without harsh extraction. Each variety ferments separately in temperature-controlled stainless steel to keep the fruit clean and bright, and the wine sees no oak ageing, so the focus stays on the grape. The colour is a vivid purple-red. The nose shows ripe cherry and strawberry with a delicate floral note and a touch of pepper from the Syrah. The palate is juicy and generous, with sweet red fruit, soft tannins and an easy, fruit-driven finish. Serve at 15 to 17 degrees. It is an everyday wine for grilled meats and tapas.
