Borsao makes this Campo de Borja rosé from Garnacha grown on clay limestone, stony and silty soils. A short cold maceration and a bleed off the fruit give a fresh, fruity wine of strawberry, cherry and citrus.
Description
Borsao Rosado Selección comes from Bodegas Borsao in Campo de Borja in Aragón, a region long associated with characterful Garnacha. This single varietal rosé is sourced from younger vineyards between 10 and 25 years old, planted on a mix of clay limestone, stony and silty soils that suit the variety well and ripen the fruit evenly in the warm, dry continental climate. After a conventional harvest the grapes are given a cold maceration of under twelve hours on arrival at the winery, drawing colour and aroma from the skins while the low temperature protects freshness, followed by a saignée or bleeding off of the lightest juice. Cool fermentation in stainless steel keeps the wine bright and dry rather than sweet. The colour is a vivid pink. The nose is fruit driven, with strawberry, cherry and redcurrant over citrus and a light floral note, and the palate is fresh and dry with juicy red fruit and a clean, faintly saline finish. Serve well chilled at around 8 degrees. Generous and easy to drink, it suits grilled pork, poultry and tomato based dishes.
