A soft Guadeloupe VSOP from Bonne Mere, fruity and woody with vanilla, yellow fruit and a light smoky edge over a natural cane sweetness, pressed from fresh sugar-cane juice and dangerously drinkable at a gentle 43%.
Description
Bonne Mere is a Guadeloupe agricole producer, and this DBM VSOP Cuvee Enora is pressed from fresh sugar-cane juice rather than molasses. It sits at the soft, easygoing end of the style, an aged agricole built more for relaxed evenings than for serious study.
Matured in oak, it leans fruity and woody with a comforting sweetness: vanilla, allspice and a molasses-like richness on the nose, then wood, vanilla and a light smoky edge across a gently sweet palate, finishing on caramelised wood and toast. The natural sweetness reads as cane and cask rather than additive, and the fine, well-judged oak gives it shape. At a soft 43% it is dangerously drinkable and offers good value, a friendly Guadeloupe sipper that slots in comfortably alongside other easy 40 to 43% aged rums while adding a touch of yellow fruit and smoke.
