A Guadeloupe XO agricole built on age and oak, leaning into rounded dried apricot, toasted nuts, leather and polished wood with warm spice, a balanced, drier and cane juice driven sipper for slow pouring at an approachable 43 percent.
Description
Bonne Mere DBM Grande Reserve XO Cuvee Eden is an aged agricole from the Bonne Mere range on Guadeloupe, an island whose IGP covers both cane juice and molasses rum under looser rules than the Martinique AOC. This XO sits at the mature end of the house, a blend built around older cane juice rum.
Distilled from fresh pressed cane juice and matured to an XO age in oak, it trades the grassy snap of a blanc for wood led depth. The nose offers dried apricot, dried fruit and peppery oak, the palate dried apricot, spice and leather, and the finish stays on oak, dried fruit and warm spice. At 43 percent it is rounded and easy to follow, a polished, drier Guadeloupe sipper for slow pours rather than a cane forward firecracker, and the cane juice backbone keeps it honest under the wood.
