A light, sweet aged molasses rum from Guadeloupe’s Bonne Mere under the Darboussier name, bottled at 42%, with cherry, marzipan and a nutty edge giving way to soft dried fruit, berries and chocolate.
Description
Bonne Mere Darboussier Rhum Vieux is an aged rum from the Bonne Mere distillery in Guadeloupe, carrying the historic Darboussier name. Although Guadeloupe is best known for agricole, this is made from molasses rather than fresh cane juice, putting it closer to the global rum default than to the island's cane-juice tradition, and it is a genuinely rare bottle with little documentation.
The profile is light and sweet rather than bold. The nose offers cherry, marzipan and a nutty edge, and the palate is soft and fruity with dried fruit and berries, closing on a sweet, fruity finish with a note of chocolate. The molasses base gives a gentler, rounder character than a grassy agricole blanc, and the modest 42% keeps it easygoing. This is an approachable, dessert-leaning aged rum and something of a collector's curiosity given how seldom it surfaces, best sipped neat for its soft fruit and nut character.
