Bols Crème de Cassis comes from Lucas Bols, the Amsterdam house distilling and blending liqueurs since 1575, built on blackcurrants and sugar for a deep, full-bodied fruit liqueur. Bottled at 17% in 70cl, it is a creme de cassis, a high-sugar blackcurrant liqueur rather than a dairy cream, the creme naming its sweet, syrupy texture. In the traditional macerated style the blackcurrant leads, dark and intense.

The nose is an intense, fresh blackcurrant aroma with a fine sweetness, the palate full-bodied and fruity with a clear, intense blackcurrant note over a gentle sweetness and a subtle herbal edge, the finish long and soft with blackcurrant lingering. Its job in a glass is deep berry flavour, sweetness and colour, which makes it the base of a Kir Royale, a Kir and a Cassis Sour, and a colour and fruit note in El Diablo and berry serves. Pour it over ice, or top it with sparkling wine for a quick aperitif. A reliable cassis note for the back bar.
