Vinyes Domènech make Boig per Tu in D.O. Montsant, from organic Garnacha and Cariñena planted at 450 metres between the Llaberia and Montalt hills. Six months in French oak keep the focus on ripe red fruit, liquorice and a dry, stony minerality.
Description
Boig per Tu is made by Vinyes Domènech at Capçanes, in the southern part of the Montsant zone that wraps around Priorat in Tarragona. The vines, Garnacha Tinta and Cariñena, sit at around 450 metres above sea level across twenty-five hectares set between the Llaberia and Montalt ranges, and are farmed organically under CCPAE certification. Altitude moderates the Mediterranean heat, with cool nights that slow ripening and lock in acidity and aromatic freshness, while the poor hillside soils keep yields low and concentrate the fruit. Fermentation runs for around fifteen days at controlled temperature, drawing out the colour, ripe tannin and dark fruit that mark these two varieties. The wine then spends six months in French oak, a short ageing that settles the texture and adds a light frame of spice without masking the fruit or the site. The 2023 is deep, bright cherry red. The nose shows ripe red and black berries, plum and liquorice over dried Mediterranean herbs and a dry, stony note. The palate is full and warming at fourteen and a half percent, with rounded tannins and an earthy, mineral finish. Serve at 16 to 18C. It pairs with grilled lamb, beef and mushroom dishes.
