Remordimiento Tinto is an organic Jumilla red from Bodega Cerrón, blending Monastrell and Garnacha from recovered old vineyards in La Calera. Wood ageing rounds a wine of red fruit preserves, dark berries and a balsamic, herbal edge, balancing acidity, alcohol and fruit.
Description
Remordimiento Tinto is made by Bodega Cerrón, a family winery in the La Calera area of D.O. Jumilla, Murcia, whose roots reach back to 1895. The project recovers old vineyards once abandoned for low yields, now twenty-six hectares farmed to give wines with a clear balance between acidity, alcohol and fruit. It blends Monastrell, the appellation's flagship variety, with Garnacha, both suited to Jumilla's hot, dry Levante climate and poor limestone soils, where low-yielding old vines produce concentrated fruit. The wine is certified organic and aged in wood, the barrel time softening Monastrell's firm tannins through slow oxygen exchange while leaving the fresh fruit and herbal character intact. The colour is deep and bright. The nose opens on red fruit preserves and darker berries, with a subtle balsamic and Mediterranean herb undertone. The palate is medium to full bodied and genuine in character, ripe but kept lively by good acidity, finishing on supple, savoury tannins. Serve at 16 degrees with grilled and roasted meats. It works with lamb, beef and pork, and the balsamic note suits tomato-based stews.
