Bodega Cerrón ferments this organic Chardonnay in barrel in D.O. Jumilla, in Murcia. Fresh and Mediterranean, it shows ripe yellow fruit and citrus over white flowers with a light touch of oak and a rounded, balanced palate.
Description
Remordimiento Blanco is a barrel-fermented organic Chardonnay from Bodega Cerrón in D.O. Jumilla, in the Murcia region of southeast Spain. The winery is a small family project set up in 2004 at Fuente-Álamo to continue a local winemaking tradition dating to 1895, working recovered vineyards on the mountain slopes. Jumilla is a warm, dry Mediterranean zone, but higher slope sites and cool nights help Chardonnay keep freshness and lift alongside ripe fruit. The wine is fermented in barrel, which builds texture and a gentle oak frame while the lees add weight and a creamy note; the aim is a fresh, smooth and distinctly Mediterranean white rather than a heavily oaked one. The wine is certified organic. The colour is a bright pale yellow. The nose is ripe and floral, with white peach and melon, citrus nuances and a hint of white flowers. The palate is medium bodied and balanced, the ripe stonefruit and citrus carried by fresh acidity, with a light touch of vanilla and pear from the barrel through a clean, rounded finish. It keeps a vibrant, Mediterranean character. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees with white fish, roast chicken or pork.
